ASV Geelong
ASV Geelong, originally established in 1958 as the Astronomical Society of Geelong, is committed to fostering a passion for astronomy and its related sciences. For over six decades, we've served as a gathering place for astronomers, stargazers, and science enthusiasts in the Geelong region. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, ranging from beginners to experienced enthusiasts.
ASV Geelong hosts regular meetings, events, and stargazing nights throughout the year, many of which are open to the public. We also offer educational programs for schools and community groups, aiming to inspire future generations of astronomers. With access to advanced telescopes, observatories, and equipment, our members have the chance to explore the night sky and delve into the wonders of the universe.
Whether you’re an amateur stargazer or a seasoned astronomer, ASV Geelong welcomes anyone with a passion for astronomy and science.
Our meetings take place on the first Friday of each month from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM at our clubrooms at the Geelong Showgrounds. We’re always happy to answer questions about astronomy or help you set up your equipment.
Current ASV members in the Geelong region, or those visiting, are invited to attend our Friday social sessions from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. We have an upstairs telescope available for accredited members, with bookings required. Additionally, we offer a variety of telescopes for loan, including 6” and 8” Dobsonians, as well as astrophotography equipment.
For inquiries, please contact Section Director Kelly Clitheroe at 0423 743 908. You can also apply for membership through the following link - Join Here.
We encourage you to visit our club, try our telescopes, and speak with members before purchasing your own equipment.
